Thursday September 13th - Sunday September 16th, 2018

RALLY PROGRAMME

Programme for the AOMCC Annual Rally 2018

(provisionally, subject to changes)

We've tried to put together an attractive Rally programme with something interesting for everyone:

Thursday September 13th:

Opening rally, arrival of participants, registration at cabin 13 with warm welcome, issue of goody bag with information and accommodation key/label + parking permit.

After settling in, get together, exchange stories, visit the city if you like, have a drink, etc. After dinner in the evening have a good time together with old Ariel movies.

Friday September 14th:

One of the best ways to see the Amsterdam city center is from the water during a Canal Cruise. The extensive canal system was built during the Dutch Golden Age to facilitate easy transport of all trade goods.

After a relaxed breakfast, at 09.45 hrs we start a very short walk (7 min.) to a nearby marina, where we will board comfortable longboats (with cover in case it rains) for transportation to the city centre (30 min.) and a 90 min. guided Cruise through the Amsterdam canals (total time approx. 2 hrs). We will disembark in the city centre near our next destination.

This cruise, including one coffee/cappucino/tea per person, and transportation back to the camping (by coach and/or taxibus, at 16.30 hrs) is now fully booked!

After the Canal Cruise everybody can have lunch individually or in groups. For those who plan to visit the Maritime Museum, we suggest the roof restaurant of the nearby Nemo Science Museum, an attractive place for this. Offering a grand view and large spaces, you can choose your favourite cold or hot dish from an extensive buffet. If the weather is good, you can sit outside. For the brewery visitors there are many places to eat nearby.

After lunch there are three options for the afternoon (you can only join one option; as they "happen" simultaneously):

  1. A visit to the National Maritime Museum, offering a nice collection of historic maritime paintings, an extended history of the Dutch Golden Age (1600-1700), a collection of historic navigation instruments, ship decorations (wood carvings), a unique world map from 1648, a collection of yacht models, a library of historic photographs and a live size reconstruction of an old Dutch sailing ship. Admission fee: € 12.00 p.person.

  1. Or a visit to city brewery "De Prael", located at the Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam, one of the oldest parts of the city. As early as 1300 there was a beer quay at this very location, where beer was imported from Germany on wooden ships. Later on, this was the site of Amsterdam’s first city breweries. De Prael is about so much more than just beer: it has an added social function by employing people with job dificulties.

The guided tour of the brewery (approx. 30 min), including tasting a half pint of blond beer in the pub,

costs € 8,50 p. person. Of course it is possible to stay a bit longer and taste some more beers....

  1. Or alternatively, one can spend the afternoon in the city centre at one's own leisure. Just register & pay for the Canal cruise and make sure to be back at the assembly point at 16.30 hrs.

As Amsterdam is a popular and very busy city, both cruise & visit options are by pre-booking only, based on availability.

For those who prefer to ride their Ariels, we will supply a route for a visit to the Cruquius steam pump museum near Haarlem.

After dinner we have musical entertainment with "Happy music from all over the world" with the street orchestra Toeters & Bellen. Have drinks, exchange stories and have more fun afterwards until the bar closes.

Saturday September 15th:

After breakfast, you can join in an 'individual' motorcycle ride into the countryside. Form your own little group of riders. We will offer a flexible tour, with many places of interest along the way, so you can make your own choice of what to visit and where to have lunch.

We’ve put together a very attractive saturday run along the ‘Stelling van Amsterdam’. This was a defense line, located 15 to 20 kilometers around Amsterdam. In case of hostilities large parts of the area around Amsterdam would be flooded. The defense line contains 45 forts and was constructed from 1880 to 1920. It is placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The route will be downloadable for Tomtom and Garmin. More details about that later.

After the run, at around 16.30 hrs, please join the Concours d'Elegance: place your bike around the tent field in the appropriate category. Free Bavarian beer (2 barrels) will be available to spice up the Concours.

Around 17.45 hrs we will start the Concours price giving.

In the evening we have a grand party night with the Laundry Big Band & singer Léah Kline.

And of course at some point there will be the usual club raffle.

Sunday September 16th:

After an early breakfast at around 9.30 hrs, there is a short guided bike run into the city centre, with a brief (free) visit to a unique ancient "begijnhof" (beguinage; like an oasis in the city centre) and a Gallery of the Amsterdam Museum. Around noon, the rally officially ends.

Please Note: if you're leaving on the Sunday, your accomodation must be vacated by 10.00 hrs!

Please don't forget to return your key(s) to Cabin 13.

If you participate in the morning run, we will provide for a safe place to leave your luggage until your departure later (Sunday only!). Check-out campervans & caravans 12.00 hrs,

If you stay in a tent, check-out is 14.00 hrs.

And of course if you'll extend your stay for a couple of days after the rally, there are still plenty more things to do or interesting places to visit, we name just a few:

Eye Film (movie) museum

Nemo Science museum

Rijksmuseum

VanGogh Museum

Madame Tussauds

Cruise in the Amsterdam canals

Maritime Museum

Brewery Tour

Lunch options

Street orchestra Toeters & Bellen

Many places of interest along the way

Laundry Big Band & singer Léah Kline

The 2018 annual AOMCC rally is organised by Marco Boelis, Anke Nobel and Herman Noort, members of the Dutch Arielclub. We do our best to make this a memorable event and hope you’ll enjoy it.
